Adding storage to solar panels only pays off in the hours when generation and demand do not line up. This guide shows how to size storage from real export and consumption data instead of panel capacity alone.

Solar panel battery storage is only useful in the hours where production and consumption do not overlap. Export figures per hour show how much energy could genuinely have been stored, which is a far better basis than an annual total.
Compare several months. Summer surplus can be much larger than winter surplus, and storage sized purely on the best month usually sits idle for half the year.
Because the battery works on the household AC side, solar panel battery storage can be added without rebuilding the solar installation or replacing the inverter.
